The Côte des Nuits is the only viticultural area in the Burgundy region to produce great red wines at such a latitude. This is possible thanks to a climate that varies with the seasons which facilitates among others the exploitation of Pinot Noir. This variety is the majority but there is also Chardonnay du Gamay and Aligoté which are also traditional in the Burgundy region. In this sub-region you can discover in all 8 appellations all classified Premier Cru and Grand Cru which include big names such as Chambertin or Clos-de-Vougeot.
